Filed under: Coupons — Detra @ 8:51 pm

$3/1 coupon here for Tidy Cat litter.  Pair this with the sale I mentioned earlier in the week – $10.99 for a 40 pound box for Petsperk members at Petsmart.  I’ve also noticed that some of the 38 lb. containers at Target are $10.99.

Chicken Fajitas

Filed under: Recipes — Detra @ 8:19 pm

Tonight for dinner I made chicken fajitas.  We love to have fajitas when we eat out but they are usually very expensive – so, I came up with my own version to make at home.  I start by cutting chicken breasts into strips.  I cook them in a grill pan.  While they are cooking, I sprinkle them with chili powder and salt.  Then when they are almost all the way cooked, I add one onion and one bell pepper cut into slices.  I then cover the pan (look at picture, pan is not fully covered – steam can escape) until the onion and pepper are tender and the chicken is cooked through.  I serve it on wheat tortillas that I warm in aluminum foil in the oven, sour cream, shredded cheese and salsa.  Yum!!!

Deals at Target

Okay, so I know I talk too much about Target but man, you can get some great deals there!  I went to one of the Super Targets today because I wanted to try some Greek yogurt.  I’ve heard that it is good stuff but I have never tried it.  So, before going, I became a fan of Fage on Facebook and was able to print a coupon for $1 off any Fage Greek yogurt (I hit the back button after and was able to print off 3 total).  They are on sale this week for $1.69 so I was able to get 3 to try for $0.69 each (haven’t tried them yet, hope they are yummy!).  Then while I was in the yogurt section, I noticed that the Breyers Inspirations Lowfat 4 pack yogurt was on sale for $0.57 from $2.29!!!  Great deal!  They are chocolate chip, I can’t wait to try them!  THEN, after checking out, a $1.00 off 2 Breyers yogurt coupon printed out.  SO, I sent my hubby back for two more packs, he used the coupon and the total for 2 4 packs after the coupon and tax was $0.24!!!!  Now that is some bargain shoppin’!  🙂

I have also been stocking up on gifts at Target lately – watches, jewelry, toys, etc.  Be sure to check every inch of the store when you go – you never know what you will find!

One more little freebie we have found at Target – if you purchase the bags of Starbucks coffee in the grocery section, it says on the bag to take it in to any Starbucks once it is empty for a free cup of coffee.  Not too bad for something you would normally just throw in the trash.

Contacting manufacturers

For those of you that read my post the other day about contacting manufacturers, I hope you have started to do the same.  My mailbox has been filled with coupons on a daily basis ever since I started doing this.  Yesterday I got some great coupons from Seventh Generation and Annie’s Homegrown.  Today I got some from Kellogg’s, Alouette (one for a free product even), and Musselman’s.  I also got an email today from Peter Pan peanut butter saying they are sending me a coupon for a FREE product in response to me sending an email stating that I find their low-fat peanut butter gritty (I couldn’t eat the stuff – luckily the kids don’t seem to mind it too bad).  It is amazing the responses I have been getting from manufacturers.  So many of them are so happy to get emails from people that enjoy their products and have something nice to say.  The few that I have actually had a problem or complaint for have been great on taking care of the issue.

Start with your most popular items (those that you buy regularly), email the company (usually hit the “contact us” tab on their websites) and let them know that you use their products all the time and what it is that you like about them.  For example, when I emailed Alouette, I said, “My family loves your Feta Crumbles.  We enjoy eating them on salads, pizza, sandwiches, etc.  I also like the fact that the price tends to be lower than some of the other major brands.  Thanks for making such a delicious product.”  Simple as that.  For me taking the time to send them a compliment, I get one free product and 2 more coupons to boot!!  Love it!!  Give it a try.  Let me know what great coupons you get!!

Dillard’s extra 40% off!!!!

Filed under: Deals — Detra @ 3:17 pm

So my favorite time to shop at Dillard’s is here again!  Anything on clearance is an extra 40% off.  Much of the clearance is already 70% so with 40% more off, it’s a steal!!!!  Most of the clothes are winter items so now is when I stock up for next year. They did have boys Crocs that they can wear this spring and summer for as low as $3.59 (I like the boys to wear them at the splash pads) so I got them each a pair.  My husband was able to stock up on work clothes – dress shirts, slacks, belts, etc. and paid anywhere from $6.48-16.20 (orignal prices $36.00-90.00!) .Great prices!!
